Getting started

What the first few months actually look like, and what they ask of your team.

How long does a typical APS implementation take?

Plan for four months or more. We scope the timeline against your plant’s complexity rather than quoting a standard package — and we would rather set that expectation honestly at the start than have you find it out halfway through.

What moves the number is rarely the software. It is how clean your routings are, how many real constraints have to be modelled before the schedule is believable, and how quickly we can get accurate data out of your ERP. Plants that already know their setup times move fastest.

Will this integrate with our existing ERP system (SAP, QAD, etc.)?

Yes. We integrate with SAP, QAD, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics and other leading systems.

In practice that means orders, routings, inventory and capacity flow out of your ERP into the scheduling engine, and the finished schedule flows back so the shop floor and the office are working from the same plan. ERP integration is the part most implementations underestimate; it is the part we do most often.

Is implementation going to disrupt our daily operations?

No. We plan around your production schedule, not the other way round.

The new schedule runs alongside how you work today until your planners trust what it is telling them. Nobody is asked to switch off the current process on a Monday morning and hope.

Can we do a trial or pilot before committing fully?

Yes. We can scope a pilot — typically one line, one cell or one plant — to prove the value before a full rollout.

A pilot also tells you something a demo cannot: whether your data is ready, and whether your planners will actually work this way.

Living with it

Who runs this once we have gone, and what happens when something breaks.

Do we need in-house technical staff to manage the system?

No. The software is built to be run by planners, not by IT.

You will want someone who owns the schedule — that is a planning role, not a technical one — and we stay available so your internal resources are not stretched to cover the gaps.

Will our planners and shop floor team actually use this?

This is the question that decides whether an implementation succeeds, and it is worth asking hard.

Adoption fails when the schedule tells people something they know to be wrong. That is why we spend the time on constraints and data up front: a plan that matches how the line really runs gets used. One that does not gets quietly replaced by a spreadsheet within a month.

What’s the learning curve for our team?

Minimal for the people running the daily schedule. We deliver hands-on training against your own data rather than a generic demo set, so the first schedule your planners build is a real one.

What kind of training do you provide?

Personalised team training, written documentation for your configuration, and ongoing support afterwards.

Training is scoped by role — planners, supervisors and management need different things from the same system.

What support do we get during and after go-live?

Dedicated support through implementation, and continued access to our team afterwards for optimisation, troubleshooting and training.

Support does not end at launch. Plants change — new equipment, new products, new constraints — and a schedule that is not maintained drifts out of trust. We stay engaged so the system keeps earning its place.

What changes on the floor

The operational questions — what actually improves, and by what mechanism.

How does this impact on-time delivery performance?

Clients typically see a significant improvement in OTIF (On-Time, In-Full) after implementation.

The mechanism is simple enough: when the plan respects real capacity and real setup times, promised dates stop being optimistic guesses. Most late orders are not caused by slow production — they are caused by a plan that was never achievable.

How does the system handle last-minute changes or rush jobs?

The scheduling engine reschedules in real time, so you can see the consequence of taking the rush order before you commit to it — what moves, what slips, and what it costs you elsewhere.

That is the difference between responding to change and absorbing chaos.

Can this reduce changeovers and downtime?

Yes. Sequencing is where most of the hidden cost sits.

Optimising the order in which jobs run — grouping compatible products, minimising washdowns and tooling swaps — cuts changeover time and idle time without anyone working faster.

Will we reduce overtime or labour costs?

Yes. Better scheduling reduces inefficiencies, overtime and unplanned labour spikes.

Overtime is usually the symptom of a plan that fell apart mid-week. Fix the plan and much of the premium labour disappears on its own.

Can this handle the complexity of our factory floor?

Yes. The system models machine dependencies, sequence-dependent setups, shared resources, labour and tooling constraints — the things that make your plant harder to schedule than a textbook.

Complexity is the reason to do this. Simple plants can get by on a spreadsheet.

What makes this better than spreadsheets or in-house tools?

Real-time visibility, automatic updates, and genuine optimisation rather than manual sequencing.

A spreadsheet is a snapshot that is wrong the moment a machine goes down. It also lives in one person’s head — which becomes a serious problem the week they are on holiday.
